Arsenal thrash 10-man Ipswich 4-0 to delay Liverpool's title celebrations (2025)

Arsenal followed up their stunning win over Real Madrid with a comfortable 4-0 Premier League victory against 10-man Ipswich Town.

The Gunners travelled to Portman Road knowing that defeat could crown Liverpool champions on Sunday, provided the Reds also beat Leicester City.

But against the relegation-threatened Tractor Boys, there was little chance of that happening, as Mikel Arteta’s side dominated the match and deservedly took an early lead through Leandro Trossard.

It wasn’t long before they doubled their advantage, with Gabriel Martinelli tapping-in following a great team move.

Ipswich’s performance was spirited but they let emotions get the better of themselves at times, none more so than when Leif Davis recklessly hacked down Bukayo Saka, leaving the referee no choice but to send the defender off.

Arsenal were in cruise control from that point on but continued to press and after Saka spurned a hat-trick’s worth of chances, Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri scored after the break to complete the rout.

The result means Liverpool’s title celebrations are on hold for a few more days, with the Gunners hosting Crystal Palace on Wednesday before the huge Champions League semi-final first-leg against PSG.

Keep tuned for all the reaction from Portman Road, including an update on Bukayo Saka after the winger was pictured with a large ice pack on his leg following Leif Davis’ horror challenge.

Ipswich star slammed for ‘ridiculous’ tackle as worrying Bukayo Saka pictures emerge

Chelsea win in injury-time

Callum McAvoy

Big news from elsewhere in the Premier League, as Pedro Neto scores a 93rd minute winner to give Chelsea all three points at Fulham.

A late Pablo Sarabia goal has given Wolves a 1-0 win at Man Utd and confirmed their place in the Premier League.

That means Ipswich’s only chance of survival is to win their last five games and hope 17th place West Ham don’t get two points from their run-in.

Full-time! Ipswich 0-4 Arsenal

Callum McAvoy

Was there any ever doubt?

A classy performance from Arsenal keeps the title race alive for a few more days at least.

Ipswich are on the verge of relegation to the Championship.

Ipswich’s final sub sees Chaplin replace captain Morsy.

GOAL! Ipswich 0-4 Arsenal (Nwaneri)

Callum McAvoy

There’s the fourth goal!

Following the corner, Nwaneri receives the ball in the box. He turns, shoots and a huge deflection off O’Shea takes it past a hapless Palmer.

87 mins: Ipswich 0-3 Arsenal

Callum McAvoy

Morsy takes out Zinchenko and Arsenal have a free-kick on the edge of the box.

Rice has already gone off so the Ukrainian takes responsibility.. staright into the wall.

But wait! The ball is still alive and Odegaard has a pop and smacks the post! Butler-Oyedeji then has an effort tipped over by Palmer, so nearly a debut goal!

No hat-trick for Trossard as he’s withdrawn for Butler-Oyedejiwho makes his Premier League debut

A great game for the Belgian forward who will be hoping to start the Champions League semi-final the week after next.

Arsenal fancy a fourth but can they get it?

Two more changes for Ipswich including the exciting Delap coming on for Hirst.

With the win in the bag, Arteta brings Tierney and Sterling on for Rice and Martinelli.

It’s a quick turnaround for Arsenal, who host Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

GOAL! Ipswich 0-3 Arsenal (Trossard)

Callum McAvoy

If it wasn’t already over, it is now.

A neat corner routine ends with Trossard finding the back of the net with a classy finish.

Too easy.

65 mins: Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal

Callum McAvoy

Odegaard has played very well and fancies a goal. He has a pop from outside the box but Palmer easily catches it.

Up the other end, Taylor comes close following a free-kick situation but Raya gets a hold of his blocked effort.

62 mins: Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal

Callum McAvoy

In case you’re wondering, Saka did get one more round of boos as he came off the pitch.

Ipswich fans clearly didn’t watch a replay of the red card foul during the break. Or maybe they were annoyed at the lack of fantasy points from the winger…

Arsenal fans will just be happy that their starboy is being protected but he is now receiving treatment on the bench. Just precautionary?

58 mins: Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal

Callum McAvoy

Close for Ipswich!

Hirst is sent through on goal with Arsenal’s high line caught out. He holds off his marker in the box and tries to curl one past Raya but it’s just wide of the post.

Arsenal now make their first two changes as Saka and Merino make way for Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri.

53 mins: Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal

Callum McAvoy

Ipswich’s frustrations are still boiling. Merino fouls Morsy but the home captain violently grabs the Arsenal star and drags him to the ground.

Pathetic from both players really and the referee has a word with the pair.

49 mins: Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal

Callum McAvoy

Enciso was a bright spark in the first-half but McKenna clearly doesn’t want this turning into a mauling.

The change hasn’t solidified things yet however with Arsenal pressing hard for a third. Odegaard forces a good save from Palmer and the Tractor Boys are holding on.

Second-half kick-off! Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal

Callum McAvoy

We’re back underway at Portman Road.

Ipswich make their second change with Enciso coming off for Taylor.

As it stands, Liverpool won’t be lifting the Premier League trophy today.

Around the grounds

Two other Premier League games have reached half-time with Man Utd vs Wolves goalless at Old Trafford.

There’s an upset on the cards at Craven Cottage, with Fulham 1-0 up against Chelsea in the west London derby.

Ex-Arsenal man Alex Iwobi got the goal which could be a serious dent in Chelsea’s top-five hopes.

Half-time! Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal

Callum McAvoy

Arsenal in cruise control at Portman Road.

Bar Davis’ idiotic red card, Ipswich haven’t been too bad but the Gunners are just too good today.

45 mins: Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal

Callum McAvoy

Five minutes added on for the first-half.

Ipswich cause some havoc with a free-kick into the box but a foul on Merino ends the chance.

44 mins: Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal

Callum McAvoy

Saka could and maybe should have a hat-trick.

Great skill from Odegaard who feeds Trossard and he pulls the ball back for Saka.

His shot is wide again though. Home fans are loving it.
